Here’s another reason to take a break from our busy, and often stressful, indoor lives: June is Great Outdoors Month. It is the perfect time to get outside, explore and connect with nature. With 280 state parks, the recreational opportunities in California are endless.
Whether at a state park, beach, recreation area, natural reserve, vehicular recreation area, or marine reserve, there are a ton of options to have a great time in the outdoors. You can take hike in the beautiful redwoods in our North Coast Redwoods District parks, surf the iconic state beaches in our Coastal Division parks, star gaze at night in our desert parks or simply enjoy a picnic with family and friends. Here’s just a small sampling of the different recreational opportunities available at California’s state parks:
- Horseback riding
- Scuba diving
- Off-highway vehicle riding
- Nature studying
- Wildlife viewing
Experts say spending time outdoors helps our health––both our physical and mental health. If you haven’t already, make it a habit to visit our state parks, starting with the Great Outdoors Month and every month thereafter.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved designating June as Great Outdoors Month, hoping to encourage all Americans to enjoy our country’s beautiful natural resources. State Parks makes it easy—and fun—to recognize this national month celebration!
